Buildings and the Built EnvironmentA consciously built community seeks to improve the quality of life for all the people, animals, and plants within its population. This means that old buildings are repaired and maintained, new building is done only when necessary, and the labor and materials used are beneficial to the community. Each building is an asset, and they all work together to create a community that is self-sustaining and beneficial for everyone.
I will keep updates posted in chronological order. Check back often, and feel free to add anything I miss. We had a great discussion group for the built environment. Everyone had dozens of great ideas, and I'm sure we won some kind of award for the sheer number of pages we filled up with our lists. This way we can have a dedicated staff to do research, find materials, and really put in the time and effort that these projects will need. The Building Resource Center should:
We also identified a ton of local assets on our side. You can view the whole list here. On tuesday July 31, at Surya Nagar, we continued this conversation and planning that will make this center a reality. We already have a few ideas of where we might have and office (which we plan to retrofit into a model of green building) and possible staff. We also have several different community groups already operating which we might integrate through the creation of this center.
