Presentations

Energy Museum - Alan Rubin

  • Among many other endeavors, Alan and his team are working on the Energy Museum, including inviting companies to become solution providors
  • Working with Alliant Energy, energy audits are being scheduled to coincide with the opening of the Energy Museum

Carbon Neutral Web Site - Fred Rosenberg

  • The Carbon Neutral Initiative web site is now located on the Renew Fairfield web site
  • The site uses WikiWikiWeb pages, where anyone can create or edit content
  • Anyone can post comments to any page
  • If anyone needs help posting or editing, feel free to contact Fred or Rick and we will be happy to help you
  • Everyone is strongly encouraged to reference the site regularly, and learn to post good resources, links, and page comments. It's really quite easy!
  • Please note:
    • There is a "Recent Changes" link at the upper right of each page. It shows all changes made to the entire site, not just our CN pages.
    • There is a Search link also at the upper right, that you can use if you know content exists but not exactly where.

Carbon Calculators - Fred Rosenberg

  • There are many Carbon Calculator web sites, ranging from simple to detailed. Here's a few examples:
  • Individuals can calculate their carbon footprint by providing information on household energy usage, car travel, plane travel, etc.
  • In principle, a city's carbon footprint can be calculated in similar fashion.

Melbourne, Australia Carbon Neutral Project - Fred Rosenberg

  • Melbourne has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2020
  • Here's a link to Melbourne's carbon neutral model (1.29 MB PDF file)
  • Melbourne has three core strategies for achieving carbon neutrality
    • Leading edge design
    • Greening the power supply
    • Sequestering residual emissions

Action Items

  1. Climate Neutral Initiative Board members are encouraged to post their vision for this initiative by Sunday, Aug 19 so that the next meeting can be most effective and efficient.
  2. We will continue discussion of vision and goals at the next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug 22
  3. Everyone is encouraged to calculate their household's carbon footprint before next week's meeting

Thanks so much for doing this Rick--great job! I added a couple of sentences regarding using the web site, and also put Kim's material on a page, as well as the Word doc link.
