9-11 Meeting Agenda

Meeting: Tuesday evening, Sept. 11, 8:00 pm.

Old business:

  • (5-8 minutes) Update from Kim and Bob on Carbon Model progress, discussions with, (and proposal from if it has arrived), Econergy (www.econergy.com). See news update below.
  • (10 minutes) Update from Fred on the Energy Independence for Fairfield project.
  • (15-30 minutes) Mission and Goals. Our identity is still not well defined. Before we expand the number of board members and the activities of the board, I'd like to see a clear definition of who we are. Sound Ok?
  • (5-10 minutes) How we make decisions -- consensus or majority vote or ??

New business

  • (10 minutes) Report from the IRENEW festival, contacts made, things learned relevant to our initiative By whomever goes this weekend.
  • (5 minutes) The public nature of our web site. Anything that is up on this site must be considered public and not merely internal discussion.
  • (5-10 minutes) Adding new members to the Board, and having guests at our meetings. It seems we should have a shared agreement on these things, because 1) confidentiality will likely become more important given the significance of our projects, and premature leaks can kill a project; 2) also, it takes valuable time at our meetings to bring new people up to speed.
    • New Members: Some questions we can ask. In what areas is the Board lacking representation or skills, in order to fulfill it's purposes? what criteria should we have for a new board member? Do we need anyone right now? How large is too large?
      • Here's a discussion starter: At the least, we are lacking in some area that the candidate fills, all current board members are comfortable with a candidate, one or perhaps two at least should recommend them, the candidate should be creative and comfortable thinking outside the box, and the candidate should have some demonstrated abilities to work harmoniously in a group.
    • Guests: similar rationale as above. Shall guests be always welcome, or only depending on a specific meeting agenda? if they come, should they mainly be listeners, or allowed to freely participate?
  • Bob Berkebile's upcoming visit, Oct 4-6?

News/Update Last Wednesday, Bob arranged a conference call with Econergy, the 'green' consulting company that Shaklee uses. On the call were Bob and Kim, and also Diane and Fred (invited by Bob). (Please see www.econergy.com for more info) In short, this company does everything that we want to do--building city-scale carbon models, helping cities become carbon neutral (they're working with Boulder), and building community-scale renewable energy plants and systems. They work in both North and South America, and this coming week will send a proposal to Bob on what they'd charge to do everything. This has exciting potential!
