Fairfield Climate Neutral Initiative

Vision:

  • Fairfield has achieved carbon neutral status by dramatically reducing its carbon footprint, and participating in significant offset projects that benefit a sister city in Africa.
  • This achievement has brought great economic benefit, improved quality of life and health, and feelings of pride for every citizen.
  • Fairfield is looked upon as a model of environmental responsibility, economic, social and cultural dynamism, and harmony among its citizens.
  • Fairfield becomes a the Navarre Region of the US, reaping huge economic rewards and achieving a high degree of self-sufficiency

Mission:

To achieve carbon neutral certification for the city of Fairfield through the most prestigious international certification body.

Goals

  1. Build a valid greenhouse gas model for Fairfield
  2. Engage with organizations that can help us build our carbon model.
  3. Build an ROI model for achieving carbon neutral status at various levels of increased efficiency in energy use, and other factors.
  4. Engage a guiding coalition of business, civic, and religious leaders from across all social sectors.
  5. Create a public education campaign as to the economic and quality of life benefits of the initiative. Achieve a critical mass of citizen support and enthusiasm for the goal.
  6. Interact effectively with all other citizen committees formed from the Community Futures conference to advance the goal of greenhouse gas reduction and carbon neutral certification
  7. Engage in a cooperative program of support with Melbourne Australia or other cities which have set the goal for carbon neutral status and have built models we can access.
  8. Engage a coalition of international experts willing to help make Fairfield a model for other cities to follow.
  9. Engage with Wangari Mathai and the Greenbelt Movement to set up a sister city in Africa for offset projects and cultural exchange.
  10. Engage the faith community in the initiative through the ministerial council
  11. Create education programs and ways to engage school aged children.
  12. Engage the retired community as ambassadors of the initiative
  13. Create artistic expressions of the initiative and goals through the model of community building of The Living Arts Institute.
  14. Partner with local organizations and individuals already deeply engaged in sustainable living theory and practice.
