My Take on our goals (version 1.2)
Cities can play a tremendous role in the global warming climate crisis, but reducing our carbon emissions is not enough. It is important to consider the full environmental costs of our lifestyles in order to live more sustainably. Therefore, in addition to carbon dioxide emissions, we will measure the environmental impact of our consumption of water, land, and trees..
- Define Carbon Neutral (CN) for the community, and in such a way that we paint a clear picture of its value -- a wonderful future, full of abundance and success with a stable energy and food supply, etc. This is the 'moon shot' vision we have been talking about--it should seem both wonderful and somewhat impossible with today's technologies.
- Measure the city - county’s CF: Create a Carbon Footprint model for the city - county as a baseline for measuring our progress towards CN and the sustainable, regenerative future envisioned above.
- Enroll and engage community leaders in the vision, for feedback, to participate in the process, and to help create the next steps forward
- Enroll and engage the whole community in the vision, for feedback, and to participate in the process
- Enroll other communities and outside organizations to support our efforts...
- Work with the city/county to establish a 10 year strategic green plan that moves us towards these goals.
- Encourage our local educational systems to incorporate sustainability and an appreciation of our rich local resources, so that citizens of Fairfield at every age level, learn and understand the wisdom and practical value of environmentally sustainable living, incorporate this knowledge in their daily thinking and actions, gently encourage others to do the same and diligently practice lifelong learning.
- Provide support and encouragement for any and all efforts that move us in this direction.
