Our Mission And Goals Final Draft

The Fairfield Climate Neutral Initiative

Using the challenge of peak oil and global warming to take Fairfield beyond climate neutrality into a completely sustainable and regenerative future.

Our Vision:

To develop Fairfield into a sustainable and regenerative community for generations to come through energy independence, the development of the local economy, and other related measures, thereby ensuring the long-term prosperity and growth of Fairfield despite global warming’s current and future effects.

Our Mission:

The Fairfield Climate Neutral Initiative will initially work to transform Fairfield into a certified climate neutral city by 2017 (note). Using our climate neutral achievement as a springboard, we will take Fairfield beyond climate neutral, developing it into an exemplary sustainable and regenerative community.

Our Strategies:

  1. Develop a baseline model of Fairfield’s environmental footprint.
  2. Establish an inspiring vision and concrete goals for Fairfield to become climate neutral by 2017.
  3. Meet with community leaders to garner feedback, buy-in, and participation with the initial climate neutral plan, and establish an Advisory Board.
  4. Reach out to the entire community to implement programs that will reduce our existing individual and collective environmental footprint.
  5. Create a new model for rural Iowa energy independence by moving Fairfield toward a massive use of renewable energy as a short cut to dramatic greenhouse gas reductions.
  6. Work with the city government to develop and implement a 10-year strategic green plan.
  7. Form alliances and collaborations with other innovative communities in order to further our mutual goals.

(Note) This date will be further refined based on Econergy’s calculations.
