Citizen Action CommitteesThe Community Futures conference was held on July 28, 2007. The premise was, "What if we had one year to create a Fairfield that was beyond 'sustainable'?" The conference led to very productive brainstorming and the formation of six Citizen Action Committees, each dealing with a different aspect of sustainability. To learn more about the committees, select one from the list at left. There were also three breakout sessions at the conference that did not become committees: Local Economies, Personal Choices, and Public Policy. If you weren't able to attend the conference, read up with the Iowa Mayors Sustainability Reader, and read the Recommendations that came out of each committee. Here are some pictures from the conference:
The Big Green Summer interns posted information and links about energy, waste, food security, local economies, and green building. This will be a resource so that Fairfield residents (and the rest of the wider community) can educate themselves about the topics discussed at the Community Futures Conference in late July. In small groups, we rethought Fairfield; what can we do to make this a better and stronger community? Then we re-planned; how can we turn these ideas into reality? Finally we formed citizen action groups that will implement our plans. This site is the coordination point for those groups. This is an exciting opportunity to connect with our neighbors and improve the place where we live! Please pick a topic from the sidebar at left.
